Bianco Carrara
The world's most famous white marble, quarried in Tuscany for over 2,000 years
Carrara marble began as limestone, built up over millions of years from the calcium-carbonate remains of marine life on the floor of the ancient Tethys Sea, before intense heat and pressure recrystallised it into marble as the Apuan Alps were formed.
Its quarries have supplied builders and sculptors for over two thousand years, from Rome’s Pantheon and Trajan’s Column to Michelangelo, who personally selected Carrara blocks for his David – a legacy that continues today in landmarks including the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque and London’s Marble Arch.
At Landford Stone, we select and supply natural marble like Bianco Carrara directly, backed by expert advice on finish, fabrication and long-term care.

Stone to last
a lifetime
As a natural stone, this marble is porous and should be sealed on installation, with re-sealing roughly every 12-18 months to guard against staining. Wipe up spills promptly - acidic liquids such as wine, citrus juice and vinegar can etch and dull the polished surface - and always clean with a pH-neutral stone cleaner rather than bleach, ammonia or other acidic or abrasive products. Use a chopping board and trivets to protect against scratches and heat marks. With correct care, marble develops a genuine natural patina and remains a beautiful, long-lasting surface for generations.
