Gascoigne Blue

A rare blue-grey Portuguese limestone with subtle natural mottling

A genuinely mottled light blue-grey surface with subtle brownish fine flecks and a medium grain, giving each slab real natural character.
Gascoigne Blue is the blue-grey variation of Portugal's celebrated Moleanos limestone, quarried from the same Moleanos-Aljubarrota reserves but extracted in far smaller, naturally limited quantities than its beige counterpart.

Limestone is a hard and durable natural stone that has been used in architecture for centuries. Its soft tones and mottled texture make it an extremely popular choice throughout homes, commonly used to tile kitchens, living rooms and hallways.

Most limestones consist of a build-up of skeletal fragments from marine organisms such as coral over millions of years – fossils that are often visible on the surface, adding character. Though available in a range of finishes, limestone is mostly supplied in a honed finish, as it generally does not accept or retain a high lustre polish.

At Landford Stone, we select and supply natural stone like Gascoigne Blue directly, backed by expert advice on finish, fabrication and long-term care.

CARE & MAINTENANCE

Stone to last

a lifetime

As a natural stone, Gascoigne Blue is porous and should be sealed on installation, with re-sealing roughly every 12-18 months to guard against staining. Wipe up spills promptly - acidic liquids such as wine, citrus juice and vinegar can etch the surface - and always clean with a pH-neutral stone cleaner rather than bleach, ammonia or other acidic or abrasive products. Use a chopping board and trivets to protect against scratches and heat marks. With correct care, limestone develops a genuine natural patina and remains a beautiful, long-lasting surface for generations.
